R-PP Price Trend Q2 2026: Market Movement, Regional Prices, and Outlook

R-PP Price Trend Q2 2026: Market Movement, Regional Prices, and Outlook

The R-PP price trend, R-PP prices, R-PP Price Chart, and R-PP Price Index showed a clear but moderate increase during Q2 2026. Recycled Polypropylene, commonly called R-PP, became more important for converters as virgin polypropylene prices moved sharply higher during the quarter. The disruption caused by the Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz affected a large part of global virgin PP capacity, creating concerns about supply and pushing buyers to look for alternatives.

Compared with virgin PP, however, R-PP prices increased at a much slower pace. Across the major markets covered in Q2, R-PP prices increased between 7% and 17%, while virgin PP recorded much stronger gains. This difference made recycled material more attractive for companies trying to control production costs.

R-PP Market Movement During Q2 2026

The second quarter of 2026 was an unusual period for the polypropylene market. Virgin PP prices moved sharply upward because of supply concerns, higher transportation costs, and uncertainty around energy and feedstock availability. Recycled polypropylene followed the broader market direction but did not rise as aggressively.

The R-PP price trend was mainly influenced by the relationship between recycled material and virgin polypropylene. When virgin PP becomes expensive, manufacturers naturally look at recycled alternatives where product quality and application requirements allow it. This happened across several regions during Q2. Converters that could use recycled granules or pellets increased their interest in R-PP to reduce the impact of high raw material costs.

At the same time, R-PP has its own supply chain. Prices depend on the availability of post-consumer and post-industrial scrap, collection rates, sorting capacity, processing costs, and local demand. Therefore, even when virgin PP prices rise strongly, R-PP does not always move by the same percentage.

Why Virgin PP Prices Had Such a Strong Impact

One of the biggest factors behind the Q2 market movement was the disruption to global virgin PP supply. Around 70% of global virgin PP capacity was affected by the Iran war and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz. This created significant uncertainty for buyers and converters.

When supply becomes uncertain, buyers usually try to secure material earlier than normal. This can increase competition for available products and push prices higher. Higher virgin PP prices then improve the economic advantage of using recycled polypropylene.

This situation supported the R-PP price trend in several markets. However, recycled polypropylene could not completely replace virgin PP because some applications require specific quality, purity, color, mechanical properties, or regulatory standards. As a result, the effect of higher virgin PP prices was strong but limited to applications where recycled content could be used without creating production or quality problems.

R-PP Prices in Germany

Germany recorded the smallest increase among the tracked markets during Q2 2026. Natural R-PP pellets delivered on a free-on-delivery basis in Hamburg increased by around 7% during the quarter.

The German market has a strong focus on sustainability and recycled content. Automotive manufacturers and other industrial users continue to show interest in materials with recycled content, while European sustainability requirements are also supporting long-term demand. These factors helped keep the German R-PP market relatively firm.

However, the market did not experience an uncontrolled price increase. Bale collection remained relatively balanced, and cross-border imports provided additional material. This helped prevent a major shortage of recycled feedstock.

The R-PP prices in Germany remained mostly range-bound during much of Q2. In June, prices declined by around 5%. The main reason was the correction in virgin PP prices after the ceasefire. Once virgin PP became less expensive, the financial benefit of switching to recycled material became smaller. This reduced some of the buying pressure for R-PP.

R-PP Prices in India

India recorded the strongest increase among the markets covered in Q2 2026. Natural R-PP granules on an Ex-Delhi basis increased by around 17%.

The Indian market was affected by higher virgin polypropylene costs, disruption related to the Strait of Hormuz, and rupee depreciation. When imported or import-linked virgin PP became more expensive, recycled polypropylene became a more attractive option for converters looking to manage production expenses.

Another important factor was scrap availability. Collection in northern India remained relatively tight during the quarter. When scrap collection becomes difficult, recyclers have to compete more actively for available material. This can increase the cost of recycled feedstock and eventually support R-PP prices.

The R-PP price trend in India therefore remained firm for most of the quarter. However, June brought a small correction. R-PP prices declined by around 1% as virgin PP offers started to soften after the ceasefire. The reduction was limited, which suggests that local scrap availability and domestic market conditions continued to provide some support.

R-PP Prices in China

China also recorded a strong movement in the recycled polypropylene market. Natural R-PP granules on an FOB Shanghai basis increased by around 15% during Q2 2026.

The major reason was the sharp increase in virgin polypropylene costs. With a significant portion of global virgin PP capacity affected by the Iran war, Chinese converters became more interested in recycled material as a way to manage higher input expenses.

The Chinese market also has a large recycling and manufacturing base, which means the availability of recycled feedstock can have a major effect on prices. During most of Q2, firm demand supported Shanghai R-PP offers.

However, the market started to move lower in June. R-PP prices declined by around 4% as virgin PP prices fell following the ceasefire. Better bale availability also created additional downward pressure. This shows how closely recycled polypropylene pricing can be connected to the price difference between virgin and recycled material.

R-PP Prices in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia recorded a Q2 increase of approximately 14% for natural white R-PP granules on an Ex-Jeddah basis.

The regional market was affected by the same wider supply concerns that influenced virgin PP prices elsewhere. Even Gulf producers were impacted by the Strait of Hormuz disruption, which created concerns around logistics, supply availability, and transportation costs.

For converters producing non-critical applications, recycled polypropylene became a useful lower-cost alternative when virgin PP became expensive. This supported demand for R-PP during much of the quarter.

However, the Saudi market also faced limitations on domestic scrap collection infrastructure. Limited collection capacity can make it difficult for recyclers to secure enough feedstock, particularly when demand increases quickly.

The R-PP Price Chart for Saudi Arabia would therefore show a noticeable Q2 increase followed by a correction in June. Prices declined around 4% in June as the ceasefire reduced pressure on virgin PP prices and lowered the immediate incentive to substitute recycled material.

June Correction Changes the Market Direction

The June correction was one of the most important developments in the Q2 2026 market. The R-PP Price Index moved lower across all tracked markets during June.

This did not mean that demand for recycled polypropylene disappeared. Instead, the economics of using recycled material changed. When virgin PP prices were extremely high, R-PP offered a clear cost advantage. After the ceasefire and the resulting decline in virgin PP prices, that advantage became smaller.

At the same time, improving bale and scrap collection increased the availability of recycled feedstock in some markets. Better availability normally reduces pressure on recyclers and allows buyers to negotiate more easily.

The combination of lower virgin PP prices and better scrap availability therefore created a weaker short-term environment for R-PP.

Supply and Demand Remain Important

The future R-PP price trend will continue to depend heavily on supply and demand. On the supply side, scrap collection is one of the most important factors. If collection improves, recyclers can process more material and maintain better availability. If collection becomes difficult, recycled feedstock can quickly become more expensive.

Demand will depend on converter economics and sustainability requirements. When virgin PP prices rise, R-PP becomes more attractive from a cost perspective. When virgin PP prices fall, buyers may return to virgin material if the price difference is not large enough.

Environmental regulations can provide a more stable source of demand. In Europe, recycled-content requirements and sustainability goals are encouraging manufacturers to increase the use of recycled materials. This can provide support even during periods when virgin PP prices are relatively soft.

What Buyers Should Watch Going Forward

For buyers, simply following the R-PP Price Chart is not enough. It is also important to watch virgin polypropylene prices, scrap collection rates, energy costs, transportation conditions, and regional demand.

The price gap between virgin PP and R-PP is particularly important. A wider gap generally makes recycled material more attractive. A smaller gap can reduce substitution demand.

Buyers should also consider quality differences. R-PP is not a single uniform product. Natural pellets, natural granules, white grades, and other recycled materials can have different properties and applications. The availability of suitable grades can therefore influence actual purchasing decisions.

R-PP Price Outlook

Looking ahead, the R-PP market is likely to remain sensitive to movements in virgin PP prices. If virgin polypropylene remains under pressure from lower supply costs and improved logistics, the substitution-driven support for R-PP may remain limited in the short term.

However, long-term demand for recycled polypropylene remains supported by sustainability initiatives, recycled-content targets, and growing interest from manufacturers looking to reduce their dependence on virgin plastic.

The R-PP Price Index may therefore remain relatively stable unless there is another major disruption to virgin PP supply or a significant change in scrap availability. Regional differences will also remain important. Markets with strong recycling infrastructure may experience more stable pricing, while areas with limited collection systems can see sharper price movements when feedstock becomes tight.

Conclusion

The Q2 2026 R-PP market showed that recycled polypropylene can benefit quickly when virgin PP prices rise sharply. Germany, India, China, and Saudi Arabia all recorded increases, ranging from 7% to 17%. India posted the strongest increase, while Germany recorded the most moderate movement. The R-PP price trend was supported by high virgin PP prices, supply uncertainty, and stronger substitution demand. However, the market changed direction in June after the ceasefire reduced virgin PP prices and improved scrap availability added downward pressure. Going forward, R-PP prices will depend on the balance between virgin PP economics, recycled feedstock availability, sustainability demand, and regional supply conditions.
